Towels spontaneously combust
Firebreathing: a fun hobby Pic: circuswurkz.co.uk

"A stack of hot towels, straight from the dryer, has sparked an emergency in a Wellington central city apartment.Fire-fighters were called when smoke started pouring from the windows of the second story Torrens Terrace apartment. The pile of towels had spontaneously ignited. The Fire Service says it is best to let towels air after they have been through a dryer to let them cool."

Thankfully most of my towels dry in the breeze. It comes from many years of being skint but I only use the dryer when I have to. Clothes smell nicer when they've been on the washing line. And they won't burn your house down. I've already lost everything I had in a fire when I was 18. Luckily no-one was hurt but I was literally left with the clothes I stood up in. In hindsight it was one of the best things to happen to me as it got me off my arse and down to Bristol. It also made me realise that the best things in life aren't things, and how little I need to be happy.

It's something to do with the way the washing powder reacts to the UV light.

...you could probably get the same effect by sticking a UV light in the dryer. :)
