Honda’s Party-on-wheels

"Honda clearly had the ecstacy generation in mind with this vehicle designed to allow the occupants to stand and dance their way from venue to venue. The interior has a distinct dance club theme, with the dashboard designed to resemble a DJ’s mixing desk (circa 1998) and the steering wheel shaped accordingly as a turntable."

Online file sharers 'buy more music'
"Computer-literate music fans who illegally share tracks over the internet also spend four and a half times as much on digital music as those who do not, according to research published today. The survey confirms what many music fans have informally insisted for some time: that downloading tracks illegally has also led them to become more enthusiastic buyers of singles and albums online."

Wired News: We Are the Web

"What could be a better mark of irreversible acceptance than adoption by the Amish? I was visiting some Amish farmers recently. They fit the archetype perfectly: straw hats, scraggly beards, wives with bonnets, no electricity, no phones or TVs, horse and buggy outside. They have an undeserved reputation for resisting all technology, when actually they are just very late adopters. Still, I was amazed to hear them mention their Web sites.

"Amish Web sites?" I asked.

"For advertising our family business. We weld barbecue grills in our shop."

"Yes, but "

"Oh, we use the Internet terminal at the public library. And Yahoo!"

I knew then the battle was over"

An Interview with Jack Yan - Publisher of Lucire Magazine

Jack Yan Yan with Aston Martin

I first met Jack Yan online while I was Editor of KnowledgeBoard, and our paths have since crossed at places like New Zealand Fashion Week. The Kiwi Austin Powers, Jack straddles many worlds, from ethical business & branding, to typography and fashion.

Known as the Anti-Vogue, Jack's fashion publication Lucire.com started out as a portal in 1997, before becoming the world's first web-to-print fashion monthly in 2004. In May 2005, the Romanian edition was launched, as the second spearhead in a global fashion publishing movement.

A Guide to Digital Music & DJ Technologies
Justin Sane, TMet Recordings' A&R guy has written a comprehensive guide for DJs on modern technologies, including the advantages and disadvantages of using CDJs, a list of good digital download sites for DJs to purchase tracks legitimately, the lowdown on file formats and bitrates, and DJing software.

Justin says "I’ve been an avid supporter of CDJs since being introduced to using them back in 1998, on the Pioneer DJ Course at Manchester Midi School in the UK. Soon after I purchased some Soundlab Dual Unit CDJs for use at home to use alongside my turntables, later selling them due to lack of available material at that time.

After moving to New Zealand I started promoting several hard dance events (Nitro/Tidy NZ/Fragile/Global Panic etc.) as well as DJing in clubs. I became involved with TMet Recordings (http://www.tmet.co.nz) – a New Zealand digital distribution label paving the way for independent artists to achieve success globally. I later took on a role there in A&R finding new artists and tracks.

Since then, my DJ sets each week in clubs and on the radio have quickly adopted the digital path. Over the last 8-10 months I’ve moved away from vinyl in favour of CDJs. I’ve been very outspoken online in my support of the digital movement, and have actively pushed legitimate digital download sales. I try and educate people about this new technology and encourage them not to pirate, as the last thing we need is another P2P DJ Soulseek.

With the global decline in vinyl sales over the past few years, there are alternative means which labels are actively exploring to sell their music and keep the scene alive. I hope everyone can take something away from this guide, and continue to support the music they love on whatever medium the future will bring.

Remember, music is still music regardless of which medium you play it on!

Thanks for reading."

An Interview with DJ Baxter

One of New Zealand most loved DJ's, Baxter has been spining tunes since he was 16. His first gig was in 1993 and was a fundraiser to send 20 drag queens to Japan. Voted no 1 DJ by Metro Magazine in 1998, Baxter's compilation mix CDs have achieved platinum sales in New Zealand.

Baxter's debut release 'Outburst' is now out on TMet Recordings with more releases in the pipeline. I caught up with Baxter recently to talk about the early days of his DJ career, legendary Auckland club Sinners, and making his own music.

Coming soon... 'MsBehaviour's Cool Kiwis' Vlog Series

I'm making a new audio and Vlog series on Cool Kiwis, such as Bob Harvey the Mayor of Waitakere City, who I'm interviewing on Thursday. Bob is passionate about Auckland's west, and has just completed a major project to protect the Waitakere ranges from urban sprawl. They take the environment so seriously in Waitakere eco-city, that a landowner was jailed for cutting down trees near here.

Bob Harvey however doesn't take himself as seriously, and also has a real life stand up comedian on his team, in the form of Westie comic Ewan Gilmour. Other notable Westies are top NZ Fashion Designer Karen Walker who lives out West when she's not overseas. There are also lots of little record labels like ourselves in what I call 'Westiewood' due to all the local production houses and film companies out this way.

If you have any questions you want me to ask Bob then add a comment or email me.
